RESUME

 

Emanuel Fuchs is a linguist and political scientist, specialising in Polynesian languages and Pacific politics.

He also has more than twenty years of experience in research, working and travelling in the South Pacific region.

 

VITA

 

Currently, Fuchs is working on several linguistic publications about Tuvaluan and is based in Vienna, Austria.

From 1999 to 2019 he engaged in extensive linguistic and political research in Tuvalu but also in other parts of the Pacific such as Australia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Hawaiʻi, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Samoa and Tonga.

From 2005 to 2007 he has been teaching History and English at the Fetuvalu Secondary School on Funafuti, Tuvalu.

1996 Fuchs earned a PhD in Linguistics from the Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovak Republic, with a thesis on “The Language Situation in Tuvalu”.

1993 he earned a PhD in Political Science from the University of Vienna with a thesis on “Religion and Politics in Tuvalu”.

From 1988 to 1990 he completed his period of military service in various intelligence and educational units.

1988 Fuchs received an MA in International Relations from Webster University, Vienna Campus, as well as the “Schön-Nobel Graduate Award for Graduate Academic Excellence”.

1986 he earned a BA in Political Science and International Relations, “With Success”, from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

1983 he studied two semesters of Political Science and Jewish Studies at the University of Vienna, Austria.

Born in 1962 and educated in Austria and Switzerland, Fuchs passed his School leaving examination (A levels) in 1982 and embarked on a scientific career.
